About the Tsinghua University History Museum

The Tsinghua University History Museum was built to commemorate the University’s centenary and officially opened on April 22, 2011. Its name was inscribed by Mr. Wu Bangguo, former Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and an alumnus of the Class of 1967 of the Department of Radio and Electronics. In celebration of Tsinghua’s 110th anniversary, the museum underwent major upgrades and reopened on April 22, 2021.

Covering a total floor area of 5,000 square meters, including 3,000 square meters of exhibition space across the first and second floors, the museum comprises the Entrance Hall, Preface Hall, Main Gallery, Distinguished Figures Gallery, and Innovation Gallery.

The Main Gallery presents the 110-plus-year history of Tsinghua University. Structured along a chronological timeline and centered on major milestones, it uses photographs, artifacts, multimedia, and immersive installations to showcase the University’s evolution and enduring spirit.

The Distinguished Figures Gallery includes the Gallery of Academic Luminaries on the first floor, featuring alumni members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as leading scholars in the humanities and social sciences. Featuring intricate bas-reliefs and a comprehensive multimedia archive, the Martyrs Section on the first floor honors those who sacrificed their lives for national independence and the liberation of the people. On the second floor, a dedicated section highlights outstanding alumni across diverse fields, reflecting Tsinghua’s longstanding tradition of cultivating talent across generations.

The Innovation Gallery presents selected research breakthroughs, offering a window into Tsinghua’s latest academic achievements.
